Why is Anorexia not considered as it should be?

Today, I want to talk about a buzzing trend: Anorexia.

I've read today about Taylor Swift's presumed anorexia.... Well, since I know this singer.... I read this kind of articles like 4 times a year....

Basically, a new article appeared this month, there were some in April, magazines are litterally using the thing over and over again. I think this is sad.

The saddest part is the fact they are trying to make us believe they talk about it because it would be scary if a celebrity were anorexic, she would need help.

Well, what is the real impact on young girls?
Their role models are those stars, who are appearing in the magazine with an anorexic tag... If you were a teenager, would you consider this disease as it really is?
I don't think so.

This kind of image would make them use their role model as a "thinspiration"... leading to potential pro-ana behaviour.
Basically, the difference between a pro-ana and an anorexic (anorexia nervosa) is the way of thinking about themself and their bodies.

A pro-ana is a person who would like to be thin, extremely thin in their dreams, using pictures of anorexics or photoshopped pictures of very thin people in order to motivate themselves not to eat...
Instead of following a good diet, which would normalize their lifestyle and well being, they are trying to limitate their caloric intake to such a minimum that their body will react by some sort of a binge.
This kind of behaviour can lead to anorexia nervosa in some cases (that's rare, however, an anorexic can use a pro-ana behaviour to sustain her goals).

Let's talk about the disease now. An anorexic, who is diagnosed with anorexia nervosa, wants to lose weight, and use extreme methods in order for the loss to be as quick as possible. Among that, she would fear any food which is not in her list of safe food, and going out of it makes her panicking. Eating makes her freak out, and can lead to anxiety attacks. The fact is that the real problem is not the weight in itself, it is a PSYCHOLOGICAL DISEASE, related to genetics, social environnement, and psychological state.
Some psychiatrists are relating this disease to the Peter Pan's behaviour: not wanting to grow up. Others are relating it to the need of being so little that no one can notice the sufferer.
Anyway, this illness doesn't need to have thinspiration role models, because the sufferer will not see them as role models long enough.

To conclude, medias are actually using the pro-ana behaviour to sell themselves, and are falsely talking about a disease as a fashion trend and not a real and dangerous psychological issue.
It is time to go back to our values of respect and care about the others, instead of wanting to push them down.
People are already pushing themselves down, why would you keep going?
